- Where is my off-site data stored?
- Datto Inc. keeps your information in two independent data centers. All of your information is kept at both data centers. Our data centers are located at our corporate headquarters in Wilton, CT and Los Angeles, CA in a data center operated CalPop, Inc. Both data centers meet Datto Inc.'s strict security policies. In addition, all data is stored in an encrypted state
- Who can access my data?
- You and you alone. Our encryption gives a unique key to each device and you are the keeper of that key. Datto employees cannot under any circumstances access or view your data.
- Are there any upload charges or per gigabyte prices other than the service fee?
- No, the service fee includes unlimited bandwidth to upload, download and change files.
- Will Datto devices slow down my internet connection?
- No, Datto devices automatically configure themselves so they do not slow down regular internet access. In addition, Datto provides tools to allow you to schedule and control how the device uses internet bandwith
- What does the service fee cover?
- The service fee covers transmitting and maintaining your data on Datto's secure servers located on the East and West coast.
- If a disaster occurs, how do I get my data back?
- Datto allows for you to either begin downloading your information immediately from our secure servers or have your data overnight shipped back to you on a new Datto device.
- What does it cost to get my data shipped back to me?
- If you wish to keep the new device that we send that data back to you on, you only have to pay Datto's cost to build the device (less than the posted retail price). If you plan on returning the device there is no cost.
- How long will it take to transfer the initial back off site?
- It depends on how much data you put on your device. Most office broadband connections can transfer between 25 and 100 gigabytes of data off site per week. If you don't want to wait you can take advantage of Datto's RoundTrip mailing service.
- How does Datto's Round Trip mailing service work?
- Datto will mail you a USB hard drive to plug in to your Datto device. The Datto will automatically copy all your files in an encrypted format onto the drive which will then be shipped back to Datto and the information will be migrated onto Datto's servers.
- Do Datto devices work with Exchange, SQL or open files?
- Yes, Datto devices will backup open files on the device. Note, Datto devices do not come with backup software. It is the customers responsibility to get files onto the device. Datto devices are compatible with virtually all third party backup software.
- What backup software programs do Datto Devices come with?
- Datto devices do not come with software. Instead, they are compatible with virtually any third party backup solution, including the default backup software included in most operating systems. In addition, files can always be simply dragged and dropped onto the device.
- Can I work with files directly on the device?
- Sure! Datto backs up open files without issue.
- What types of encryption do you use?
- Datto uses industry standard AES256 and SSL encryption. This is the same, or stronger, than most online banking and shopping websites.
- What operating systems is Datto compatible with?
- Datto devices are compatible with Windows (2000, XP, Vista), Windows Server, MacOS X 10.3 and above, and most distributions of Linux and any other operating system capable of mounting SMB or NFS shares.
- Can I buy a Datto device with out the service?
- No. At current, Datto only sells the devices with the service attached. However, Datto is always creating new products. If you are interested in this option, please send us an email at NoServiceInterest@dattobackup.com
- What happens if my Datto Device is stolen? Is my data at risk?
- No, Datto takes measures to protect your data on the device. If you device is ever lost or stolen, Datto can have your device self destruct if it is ever plugged in.
- What methods can I pay with?
- Datto accepts credit card payment exclusively through Google Checkout through our website. Datto products are also available for purchase through Amazon.com. Datto also accepts payment by check or money order through the mail.
- Why does Datto only use Google Checkout?
- Google Checkout gives us a great rate on processing credit cards which helps us keep our prices lower for you.
- What file transfer protocols do Datto Devices support?
- Datto Devices supports SMB and NFS protocols at current. Future protocol support may be released in a software update.
