Have you ever accidentally deleted a file or perhaps saved over a file that you really needed? Wouldn't it be great to be able to go back in time and get that old file back? With the new Datto Z Series, recovering past versions of your files is possible and easy to do.

Datto Z Series devices are the first non-enterprise NAS devices to give you the ability to keep and recover past versions of your files. Datto Z series devices take advantage of a revolutionary new file system called ZFS. ZFS allows Z series devices to take snapshots of all files stored on your Datto device. At any time you can go and review the snapshots and recover that file that you deleted by mistake or that previous version of an important document. Best of all, there is no software to install - taking snapshots occurs instantly and doesn't use large amounts of disk space. The easy-to-use Datto web control panel makes it easy to create a schedule for taking snapshots.

With the Z series, Datto goes one step further. In addition to local snapshots, Datto takes a snapshot of your files stored on our remote servers once a day and keeps them for a year. That way, if there is a disaster forcing you to recover information, you can also recover past versions of your files.

Snapshots: Yes, it really is that simple.

Setup: Each new share you create on your device comes with snapshots enabled by default to take a new snapshot every night at midnight. (You can customize this to take snapshots as frequently as every 15 minutes)

Recovery: Inside every share on your Datto here is a snapshot folder. Simply open that folder and you will be presented with a list of all your snapshots labeled by date and time. You can then open that snapshot and view the contents of that share at the time the snapshot was taken. To recover a file, simply copy it out of the snapshot folder.
