Datto Z Series devices are a comprehensive on-site and off-site backup solution. Z Series devices provide up to 1 TB of secure local and off-site storage. All files copied onto the Z Series device are synchronized to Datto's secure off-site servers.

Each device works to keep a synchronized copy of any data stored locally on Datto's remote secure servers. The device does this using Datto's proprietary backup software that both compresses and encrypts your data before transmitting it off-site. The software in the Z-Series device is intelligent and works to minimize the amount of data that needs be to transmitted. Our system looks deep into files stored on the device and locates and transmits only the changed bytes, greatly reducing the amount of data transferred. Datto devices use an advanced automatic update engine, meaning you never have to update software. Instead, your device automatically downloads and installs updates from Datto, always keeping your device up to date with the latest features and security.

Specialized Data Centers

Datto uses two independent data centers located on the East and West coast of the United States. These data centers are kept in constant sync with each other, so if either data center were to go off-line, the other data center has the capability to handle the full load. All customer information is stored on redundant encrypted volumes and copies are kept at both sites.

Cutting Edge Hardware

Each Z Series device is a technological marvel containing a 1.5 GHZ processor, 1 GB of RAM and dual gigabit ethernet jacks. The powerful processor and dual gigabit ethernet enables lightning fast data transfers. Additionally, Datto offers ZR models which contain two hard drives in a mirrored configuration for local redundancy and improved performance. Datto uses an advanced AJAX web interface that makes changing settings a breeze.

Amazing Software

The Datto Z Series devices are built on top of the extremely powerful OpenSolaris platform. Originally used to power Sun's most powerful servers, Datto has managed to fit an enterprise class operating system into a small, easy to use device. This creates huge advantages for you, the end user. Datto takes advantage of ZFS Sun's cutting edge file system that proactively detects and prevents silent file corruption on disk drives. In addition, ZFS provides the framework for snapshots, allowing the ability to view previous versions of your files without installing software and with no performance penalty.

What if I have a lot of data?

Often times, the initial backup can take a long time if you have a large amount of data. Datto offers a simple and unique way to get this first backup out of the way quickly. Datto can ship you a USB hard drive that you simply plug into your device. It will transfer a secure copy of all your data on the drive. Once completed, simply use the pre-paid mailer to send the drive back to Datto HQ where we will download all of your information onto our servers.
